Vehicle registrations in Poland. Data from CEPiK for Q3 2023

The first three quarters of the year proved positive in almost all vehicle categories. The exception are trailers and semi-trailers with a GVW above 3.5t (20,159 pcs.), which, despite a four percent drop, still sell better than in pre-pandemic 2019. The second exception are mopeds (9,284, -4.4%), which mean less and less for the two-wheeler market in Poland each year.

After the long-awaited rebound on the bus market, which we have been observing since February this year, buses are constantly accelerating. More vehicles were registered during the three quarters (1,211) than in the entire last year. And the third quarter itself increased by over 120% compared to the previous year.

Over 350,000 passenger cars were registered in the first half of the year. (+10.6% y/y). This year's result will most likely be better than the results from the previous three years.

Premium brands, which already constitute ¼ of the market, are growing much faster (+19.4%) than popular brands (+8.0%).

The share of premium brands has been growing systematically since 2005, when it was just over 4%. In this case it is a record 24.5%.

The dynamics of electric cars is decreasing. In the first half of the year, they grew by 77%, and after three quarters they show "only" 54% growth year on year. Their market share is 3.5%, and Tesla has a dominant position here (27% share). However, 78% of all newly registered cars still have a petrol engine (classic or hybrid). Less than 16% of passenger cars have a diesel engine (classic or electrified).

Delivery trucks with 47.3 thousand registrations slightly improved the result from the first three quarters of last year (+2.9%). In this segment, battery vehicles are also developing dynamically (+136% y/y) and occupy 4.0% of the market, compared to 1.7% a year ago. Here, Ford Transit is in the lead (38% market share).

Trucks over 3.5t record an almost 11% increase (26,596 units). Among them, tractors dominate (77% share), which grew by 9% y/y, but chassis are more dynamic (+16.7% y/y).

The number of electric vehicles is also increasing in this segment. Since the beginning of the year, 61 of them have been registered. However, 38 of them are "heavy" delivery vans with a GVW of 4,250 kg, and 23 are cars with a GVM of over 16t. In the same period last year, there were two such cars.

The motorcycles are definitely going for the record. Now, after three quarters, we are just a little short of surpassing the result from the record-breaking year of 2016 (25,844 units). Since the beginning of the year, 24,018 have been registered (+14.4% y/y), and almost every month has been record-breaking.

The market for registered ATV and UTV vehicles is also breaking records, which for many years fluctuated around 200 registrations per month, but the increases that started in 2019 and continue to this day have made this number almost four times higher. This year, the average number of registrations per month is almost 750. The situation here is similar to that in motorcycles. Every month, that's a record. The whole year will also be record-breaking.
