The first quarter of the year brought an improvement in results for most vehicle categories. Over 123,000 passenger cars were registered from January to March. This result is far from the records of 2018-2019, which were close to 140,000, but over 20% higher than in 2022.
The share of electric-powered cars increased to 3.3%, compared to 2.2% last year. The share of hybrids (including plug-in) also increased, reaching over 40% (+4.5 percentage points).
Commercial vehicles also grew during this period, by 5.7%. This result was composed of stable delivery vehicles (15,800, -0.2% y/y), positive heavy-duty vehicles (8,600, +19.2%), and crisis-hit buses (295 units, -7.5%), which were at such a low level 10 years ago.
The share of electric vehicles in the commercial vehicle market is also growing rapidly. In the period under discussion, it was 3.4%, compared to one percent last year.
34 electric trucks over 3.5t were also added. However, 29 of them were "heavy" delivery vehicles with a GVW of 4250kg, and 5 were vehicles with a GVW of over 16t. There was only one such vehicle in the same period last year.
Trailers and semi-trailers over 3.5t also saw an increase, with over 2% more registered in the first quarter than last year (7,000). For this group, the reference level from last year is very high, making this an even more positive result.
Motorcycles had their best start to the year since 2015. 7,600 registrations were 12% higher than last year. Motorcycles alone achieved record results in the latest history: 5,800 registrations are, by far, the best start of the year.
Climate and market changes have made winter months still the weakest for this part of the market, but they are definitely not "insignificant."
Electric motorcycles accounted for 6% of registrations in this group (1.6% among motorcycles and 19.6% among mopeds).
The market for registered ATV and UTV vehicles is also developing well. 1,300 vehicles were registered at the beginning of the year, a 29% increase from the previous year. For comparison, it took over six months from 2014 to 2018 to achieve such a result.
