Production in Poland. Data from CSO for Q1 2023
| The March manufacturing data released by the CSO once again this year brought some positives. Last month, we could see year-on-year increases in all segments except buses. In the case of passenger cars and heavy trucks, the increases went into triple digits, though the base for comparison was very low. Bus production, on the other hand, ended last month with a slightly lower result than a year earlier. The achieved results are encouraging despite the low base for comparison in March’22.
Combustion engines for vehicles also recorded an increase in production.
In March, the number of manufactured passenger cars was higher than a year earlier by 16,5 thous. units, i.e. 113.8% y/y, with 31 thous. cars produced. Compared to February this year, the increase was 49% m/m. Cumulatively in January-March this year, the increase amounted to 42.9% y/y to 72.6 thous. cars. However, the base for comparison was very low. Truck production increased significantly for the third consecutive month, reaching 29,646 vehicles. This is an increase of 29.6% compared to February this year, and 238.8% higher compared to the same month of 2022. During the first three months of 2023, the increase reached 95.6% y/y to 73,580 units. Bus production totalled 494 units in March, showing a slight decline of 2.4% y/y. However, compared to February this year, it is up by 29 units (+6.2% y/y). The January-March period saw an increase of 12.1% y/y to 1,288 units. Production of engines for motor vehicles jumped by 57.0% y/y. This means 237 thousand units manufactured in March this year. Diesel engines account for about 85% of this number. Compared to the previous month, 51 thousand more engines were assembled at Polish plants (+27.4%). In total, 625 thousand engines rolled off the production lines in January-March 2023, 33.0% more than in the same period in 2022. |
